With spring in full swing, summer isn’t far behind. In many Columbus homes, you can already hear the drone of air conditioners sucking up some serious kilowattage. [Read more…]
Does your air conditioner seem to be running non-stop this summer? Do you feel like you’re throwing money out the window? When it comes to paying your utility bills, this may be the case. The EPA estimates that the average U.S. household spends around $2,200 on energy annually, with approximately half of that amount going to heating and cooling. If your attic is not properly insulated and ventilated, the amount you spend on heating and cooling may be much higher.
On a hot 90-degree summer day in Ohio, the temperature of an improperly ventilated attic can peak at 150-160 degrees. That heat continually radiates down into your home, working your air conditioner harder in the summer. Hot, moist air will also prematurely age roofing materials, and allow condensation to form in the attic that leads to mold and mildew growth. If you suspect your attic is a problem area, or if you’re not sure, call the professionals at Muth & Company Roofing for an energy efficiency inspection. This service includes the following:
- Calculate the R-value of your existing attic insulation.
- Examine exhaust and intake ventilation system.
- Inspect exhaust and intake vents for obstructions.
- Check all other fans and vents to make sure they are working properly.
- Ensure gable vents are properly screened or closed off.
- Inspect ceiling can lights for proper protection in the attic.
After the inspection, our team will present you with a complete report, including recommendations for improvements that will help your home stay cooler in summer, warmer in winter and extend the life of Columbus roofing materials. The energy efficiency inspection costs only $89, a fee that we will apply toward any attic-related improvements within 30 days of the inspection.
Start saving on monthly energy costs. Call Muth & Company today at (614) 682-3060 to schedule your complete attic efficiency inspection for just $89! We’re the Columbus roofing contractors local homeowners and business owners have trusted since 1992.
Today we’re excited to share more about the Humane Society of Delaware County (HSDC), one of four local non-profits featured in Muth & Company Roofing’s holiday “Give Where You Live” fundraiser. The Humane Society of Delaware County is dedicated to eradicating animal suffering in Delaware County and surrounding areas by offering low-cost spays and neuters, educational programs, cruelty investigation and animal sheltering facilities.
HSDC began in 1972 as a humble shelter run out of a member’s garage. In 1984, a formal shelter was constructed at 4920 State Route 37 East in Delaware, and just a few years later, the Low-Cost Spay and Neuter Clinic opened. Currently, the group has the goal of expanding its facilities to better house animals in a safe and comfortable environment. In the short term, HSDC needs donations of “puzzle toys for dogs, Kuranda cat trees, and canned dog and cat food,” says Heidi Myers, Director. “Money donations would go to bring more light into our cat sickroom.”
Because HSCD receives no government funding, for the past 40 years it has relied entirely on the support of individuals and private businesses. Its largest annual fundraiser, the Fur Ball, will be held on February 9th, 2014. The event raises funds to support a wide variety of programs and operating expenses, and donations are currently being collected for silent and live auction items. Click here to visit Muth’s Facebook page and vote for HSDC on the contest page. Each vote equals $1 that we will donate to your organization of choice. The winning group (humans or animals) will split an additional minimum donation of $500 from Muth & Company!
