In addition to making big headlines, the “fiscal cliff” law (officially known as The American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012) passed at the beginning of the year extended energy tax credits for homeowners through 2013. If you’re considering replacement of Columbus roofing this year, keep in mind that certain GAF ENERGY STAR®-qualified asphalt shingles qualify for this tax credit. Attic insulation and ENERGY STAR-qualified skylights are also eligible. If you made any of these improvements in 2012, you can even claim the credit retroactively.
According to the Cool Roof Rating Council, reflective ENERGY STAR®-qualified shingles save an average of 7-15% of total cooling costs, and may increase roof product life. Qualified GAF shingle collections include:
- Timberline® Cool Series in all colors: Cool Antique Slate, Cool Barkwood and Cool Weathered Wood
- Timberline HD™ and Timberline Ultra HD™ in White
- Timberline Natural Shadow in Arctic White
- Royal Sovereign® in White
In addition to this tax credit of up to $500, GAF’s Timberline Cool Series and white Timberline and Royal Sovereign shingles offer the best performance in the industry. For more information, contact your tax advisor or call Muth & Company, the leading Columbus roofing company, at (614) 882-0900.
